Timing matters for exterior painting in Pennsylvania. Interior painting can be done year-round. Here's the Lehigh Valley seasonal guide.
Exterior Painting Season in PA
The Lehigh Valley has a real winter — temperatures below 35°F make most exterior paint products perform poorly. Latex paint can freeze before curing; oil-based paint becomes too thick to apply properly below 40°F. The practical exterior painting season in eastern PA runs April through October. Spring (April-June) is ideal: moderate temperatures, lower humidity. Fall (September-October) works well but watch the 10-day forecast — frost can damage fresh paint within 48 hours of application.
Why Summer Can Be Problematic
High summer temperatures (above 90°F) cause paint to dry too quickly, reducing adhesion and creating lap marks. Direct sun on dark surfaces can cause blistering. We schedule exterior work for early morning hours on hot summer days. July and August are the busiest months for interior projects because homeowners can have windows open while we work.
Interior Painting: Year-Round
Interior painting has no real season in the Lehigh Valley — we work year-round indoors. Winter is actually a great time for interior projects: contractors have better availability, lead times are shorter, and pricing is typically consistent year-round (we don't discount in winter). If you're planning a spring exterior project, get on the schedule in January or February — the best contractors book out 6-8 weeks by March.
