Not all painting warranties are equal. Some cover workmanship for 2 years. Others are meaningless fine-print. Here's what a real warranty covers and what questions to ask.
What a Real Painting Warranty Should Cover
A legitimate painting workmanship warranty covers: peeling, blistering, or flaking that results from improper application or preparation (not normal wear). It should be in writing, specify the duration (2 years is standard; 5 years for premium projects), and include a process for requesting repairs. Our warranty covers all workmanship defects for 2 years from project completion — we'll repaint affected areas at no charge.
What Warranties Do NOT Cover
Paint warranties (from us or the manufacturer) don't cover: normal fading from UV exposure (this is expected), damage caused by homeowner modifications, moisture intrusion from failed gutters, windows, or roof, and normal wear in high-traffic areas. Paint manufacturer warranties (Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams) are separate and cover product defects — not contractor application.
Questions to Ask Any Contractor
How long is your workmanship warranty and what does it cover? Is the warranty in writing in the contract? What's the process if I need a warranty repair? Does the warranty transfer if I sell the house? Our answers: 2-year written workmanship warranty, in the contract, we respond within 5 business days to warranty requests, and yes it transfers with disclosure.
