About Federal Style Home Painting
Federal-style architecture (1780–1820) is the most refined of American colonial styles. Named for the new republic, these homes feature delicate Adam-inspired ornament, elliptical fanlights, and perfectly proportioned facades. Easton has some of the best surviving Federal architecture in eastern PA.
Professional Tips for Federal Style Home Painting
- White, cream, or very light gray are the most authentic Federal exterior choices
- Bright white trim with high contrast on shutters (black or dark green)
- The fanlight above the front door deserves a bold accent treatment
- Avoid any warm-toned body colors — Federal homes prefer cool elegance
- Interior: pale blues, sage greens, and warm whites are period-correct
