Bathroom Repaint with New Color Scheme — Allentown, PA

A real project by Joseph Assise III Painting — Allentown, PA. See how we transformed this home from start to finish.

Before: dated mauve walls, white fixtures, gold hardware. After: Hale Navy walls, white trim, black hardware — a complete feel change. Allentown, PA.

The Challenge

This 1990s Allentown bathroom had the full period color scheme: mauve walls, white tile, gold-finish fixtures. Solid bones, but the colors screamed 1993. The homeowners were replacing the hardware (going to matte black) and asked us to update the paint to complete the transformation.

Our Process

We removed the vanity mirror for better access to the wall behind it. Applied shellac primer (Zinsser BIN) over the mauve to prevent bleed-through — dark colors absorb light, but pigments can still telegraphs through lighter covering colors. Two coats of Benjamin Moore Hale Navy (HC-154) in a satin finish — rich, dramatic, and completely wipeable in a wet environment.

The Result

The new navy walls with the matte black hardware and white trim created a completely different bathroom. Same tile, same fixtures, same layout — but it felt like a renovation. Cost: $480 for a 55 sq ft bathroom including all prep, primer, and two finish coats. Completed in one day.
