Deck Staining and Restoration — Palmer Township, PA

A real project by Joseph Assise III Painting — Palmer Township, PA. See how we transformed this home from start to finish.

Before: gray, weathered pressure-treated deck with raised grain and visible checking. After: restored with TWP (Total Wood Preservative) in Cedartone. Palmer Township, PA.

The Challenge

This Palmer Township deck was 8 years old and had never been properly stained — just left to weather. The pressure-treated lumber had grayed, the grain was raised, and there were beginning signs of checking (surface cracks) on the top boards. Another few years and replacement would have been the only option.

Our Process

We power washed the entire deck at 1,200 PSI to remove the gray oxidation layer and open the grain. Let it dry for 48 hours. Sanded all boards with a floor sander (60 grit, then 80 grit) to remove loose fibers and even out the surface. Applied TWP 100 Series in Cedartone by brush (never spray on a deck — it misses the end grain and undersides of boards). Two coats.

The Result

The deck looked nearly new. The Cedartone color complemented the home's exterior. TWP applied correctly penetrates into the wood rather than sitting on top, providing UV and moisture protection from inside the fiber. We warranty all deck staining work for 2 years. Total: $1,850 for a 300 sq ft deck.
