Exterior Inspection Checklist
- Walk the perimeter: Look for peeling, bubbling, or cracking paint - especially on south and west-facing walls that take the most sun and freeze-thaw abuse
- Check caulk lines: Cracked or missing caulk around windows, doors, and trim allows water intrusion that causes rot and paint failure
- Look for wood rot: Press a screwdriver tip against window sills, porch posts, and fascia boards - soft wood needs replacement before painting
- Check gutters: Overflowing gutters send water down your siding, causing paint failure and wood rot behind the scenes
- Look for mildew: Black streaks or blotchy discoloration on siding is mildew - needs treatment before painting
Interior Spring Refresh
- Check for wall stains from winter condensation near windows
- Look for water damage on ceilings near exterior walls (roof or ice dam damage)
- Assess high-traffic areas - hallways, kitchen, family room - for scuffs and wear
- Consider cabinet refresh if kitchen feels tired
