Bedroom painting cost depends on wall area, whether closets, ceiling and trim are included, how much wall repair is needed, and whether the color change requires primer. A 12 by 14 foot bedroom takes about 2 gallons for two coats on the walls; the labor around it is what varies.
A 12 by 14 foot bedroom with 8 foot ceilings has about 416 square feet of wall before doors and windows. At the 400 to 450 square feet per gallon Benjamin Moore lists for Regal Select, two coats are about 2 gallons. A primary bedroom of 14 by 16 feet with 9 foot ceilings has about 540 square feet of wall, about 2.5 gallons for two coats.
Often, by a coat. Benjamin Moore calls its Fresh Start High-Hiding All Purpose Primer the go-to for significant color change, and recommends tinting the primer toward the finish color. Covering a dark accent wall with a light color, or going deep, usually adds primer.
Nail holes are quick; cracks, dents and old anchor holes take filling, sanding and spot priming. The Gypsum Association's GA-214 says paints with any sheen above flat are not recommended over Level 4 drywall, so switching to eggshell or satin on imperfect walls can add skim work.
In pre-1978 homes, paid work disturbing more than 6 square feet of painted surface per room falls under the EPA lead rule, with containment and cleaning verification. Window sashes and door jambs are common sources of lead dust in bedrooms.
Not by size, but these rooms often include accent walls, stripes or murals, and families may want low-odor products and longer airing time before use. Benjamin Moore lists Regal Select at under 50 grams per liter VOC. In pre-1978 homes, lead-safe practices around window sashes are especially important in children's rooms.

Calculate wall area and multiply by two coats. A 12 by 14 foot bedroom with 8 foot ceilings has about 416 square feet of wall, so at the 400 to 450 square feet per gallon Benjamin Moore lists for Regal Select, two coats are about 2 gallons. Primary bedrooms with taller ceilings need more.
It is larger and often includes a walk-in closet, more trim and taller ceilings, so labor and paint increase. A 14 by 16 foot room with 9 foot ceilings has about 540 square feet of wall, roughly 30% more than a 12 by 14 foot room with 8 foot ceilings.
If the closet is visibly dingy or a different color, yes, but it adds time: closets are emptied, rods and shelves removed or masked, and painted like a small room. Walk-in closets can add significantly to a bedroom job, so listing them separately in the estimate keeps the scope clear.
Walls in an average bedroom can often be done in a day using quick-drying paint; Benjamin Moore lists Regal Select at 1 to 2 hours to recoat. Adding trim enamel, ceilings, closets, wall repairs or a primer coat for a color change can extend it to two days.
